Learning how to move a washer and dryer prevents leaks, damage, and a wet truck. Draining hoses and securing the washer drum are the steps people most often skip.
Step: Run an empty cycle and disconnect power to both units
Step: Shut off and disconnect the water supply hoses
Step: Drain the hoses and the washer fully into a bucket
Step: Install the washer shipping bolts to lock the drum
Step: Disconnect the dryer vent and gas line if gas-powered
Step: Tape cords and hoses to the back of each unit
Step: Use an appliance dolly and straps to move them upright
Step: Reconnect and run a test cycle at the new home
Disconnecting and moving laundry appliances.
When: Disconnect and drain the day before or morning of the move.
Watch out: Do not skip the washer shipping bolts; without them the drum can swing free in transit and damage the machine. For gas dryers, have a pro handle the gas line.
