Learning how to pack plants helps them survive the stress of a move. Pruning, secure pots, and good airflow keep houseplants alive through packing and transport.
Step: Prune dead leaves and water a few days before the move
Step: Move plants into lightweight plastic pots if they are in ceramic
Step: Wrap pots in plastic to contain soil
Step: Sleeve large plants loosely in paper to protect stems
Step: Place pots in boxes and pad them so they do not tip
Step: Cut air holes or leave boxes open for airflow
Step: Keep plants in your own vehicle, not the moving truck
Step: Unbox and water them as soon as you arrive
Moving houseplants safely.
When: Prep plants a few days out and load them last on move day.
Watch out: Do not seal plants in a closed truck for long; heat and lack of light can kill them, and many movers will not transport live plants.
