When to defrost a refrigerator before moving is at least a day ahead so it dries completely. A wet or running fridge can leak, mold, or get damaged in transit.
Step: Empty and use up perishable food before move day

Step: Mop up melted ice and wipe the interior dry
Step: Tape or secure loose parts and the doors
