A bookshelf is light once empty but surprisingly flimsy, especially particleboard units held square only by a thin back. Always unload the books first and keep the frame upright.
Pro tip: Keep book boxes small; a large box of books quickly becomes too heavy to lift safely.
Watch out: Never move a bookshelf with books still on it; the added weight will destroy the joints and the shelves can collapse.
