How to Move a Chandelier

A chandelier is a cluster of fragile glass arms, delicate crystals, and exposed bulbs hanging from a frame that was never designed to be jostled. The safest approach is to take it apart as much as it allows, packing crystals and bulbs separately and cradling the frame. Careful disassembly and generous padding are what get a chandelier to the new home intact.

Pro tip: Photograph the crystal arrangement before removing anything so rehanging matches the original design.

Watch out: Shut off the circuit breaker before disconnecting a hardwired chandelier to avoid electric shock.
