How to Move Outdoor Christmas Lights

Outdoor light strands take a beating every winter from cold and wind, so a strand that worked fine in January is not guaranteed to work again next year regardless of how it is packed. Test everything now, while you still know which strand went where.

Pro tip: Test strands with an outlet tester at the same time you take them down, not months later; you will still remember which section of roofline each strand covered.

Watch out: Never coil light strands into a tight, cramped bundle for storage; the resulting sharp bends crack wire insulation and are the single most common reason strands fail the following year.
