How to Move a Range

A range is a freestanding stove and oven in one unit, and how you move it depends entirely on whether it is gas or electric. Identify your fuel first, then follow the matching disconnect steps, because a gas range needs a pro for the line and an electric range needs its 240 volt circuit cut.

Pro tip: If you are unsure of the fuel type, the plug tells you: a large three or four prong plug is electric, a flexible metal line with a valve is gas.

Watch out: A gas range needs its line shut, capped, reconnected, and leak-tested by a licensed pro.
