How to Move a Surfboard

A surfboard is light but fragile, and dings from strapping or shifting are the main risk when you move one. Whether you carry it on a roof, inside a vehicle, or ship it, a padded board bag and careful handling of the fins and nose make all the difference. This guide covers all three methods.

Pro tip: A day board bag with reflective silver skin also shields the board from heat, which can delaminate a board in a hot car.

Watch out: Do not overtighten roof straps on a surfboard. Foam boards ding and crack under too much pressure, especially in the heat.
