How to Move a Baptismal Font

A baptismal font is heavy, often stone or metal, and usually a basin on a pedestal. Drain it, separate the pieces, and respect the weight, especially with carved or antique stone.

Pro tip: Separate the basin from the pedestal first; the two pieces are far easier and safer than moving the font as one heavy unit.

Watch out: A stone font can weigh hundreds of pounds; never hero-lift it. Use a dolly, straps, and a team, and wear steel-toe boots.
